Monica E. Martinez is a San Antonio author whose heartfelt debut, Painted Memories, honors love, loss, and the healing power of remembrance
After the passing of her husband, Anthony, in 2022, Monica searched for a way to honor his legacy while bringing comfort to others experiencing grief. Her debut children’s book, Painted Memories, grew out of that journey—a tender story about a young girl who learns to hold on to love through remembrance.
A graduate of Burbank High School (’95) and St. Mary’s University with a degree in Political Science, Monica has long valued the importance of community, storytelling, and the support of teachers and mentors who encouraged her voice. Today, she continues to uplift others through her writing and outreach, reminding families that love does not end with loss—it transforms into the memories we carry forward.
Outside of writing, Monica enjoys time with her loved ones, supporting local causes, and finding peace in everyday moments of joy, reflection, and connection.
When Eliza’s best friend Tony leaves, her world dims. But through paintbrushes, laughter, and memories of their time together, she finds that healing begins with remembrance. Even in sadness, joy leaves a mark.
“Painted Memories” is a tender, beautifully illustrated paperback that helps readers of all ages gently explore themes of friendship, grief, and hope. Whether shared at bedtime, in classrooms, counseling spaces, or as a meaningful gift, this story offers comfort, conversation, and connection.
